Description
The original map of this globe was made in Germany. Only one printed set of gores survived the ages, now in the Beinecke Library. No globes no maps, just that one. Holbein used an original globe as a model for his famous painting in the National Gallery, London. The artist improved details and our studio completed the original map in the spirit and style of Holbein’s detailing and coloring again using the original map as guide. World globes were to show sophistication and wealth of owners at the time. The French Ambassadors to the court of Henry VIII. The painted objects reflected taste and status of the Renaissance. Art, science and exploration were respected. The original globe map shows the entire Magellan round the world voyage. Holbein deleted the trail, a political compromise.
